Client’s Need

Engine-out NOx sensors are needed to abate NOx pollutants generated by ICEs, whose emissions are strictly regulated by law. These sensors, however, are expensive and prone to ageing and faults due to the harsh conditions at which they need to operate.
Aim: reduce fault rate and increase resilience of NOx-abatement system.

Approach

Virtualise the physical sensor by employing our patented DVS technology.

Main Outcomes

  • Our DVS-powered solution uses standard ECU data to estimate engine-out NOx with the same accuracy as top-of-the-line physical sensors, better response time and at a much lower cost.
  • Our solution has been integrated on GM’s commercial diesel engines, first as a backup and later as a complete replacement of the physical sensor, with savings of about 70€ per vehicle.
